All, My wife's E36 1998 328iC convertible top does not function. I took the car to the dealer for an inspection and they estimated $2500 for new motors for the top. While top down is fun, I wish to make the repairs myself with used parts to save some $$$. refer to the owners manual, for instructions to put down roof by hand, they are not easy to follow, however, the manual key they refer to is in the fuse panel, the 1st lock to undo is in the middle section of the back seat, next the lock for the front section push down roof and lock in place. the warning light at this point will still be flashing, and the display saying roof unsecure. the bit 2 posts · Joined 2011. #20 · Oct 13, 2011. i am having similar problems with my 328i convertible; took it to the BMW dealership for a quote to get it fixed, they charged $155.85 to give me a quote and to fix they stated between $4725 and maybe over $8000. Hi guys ,I’m having an issue with my 97 e36 328i convertible .The roof is fully automatic and was working perfectly ,after the guys at the car wash pulled the lever underneath the backseat of the vehicle ,everything got disengaged and found it difficult to put back together .
